It Is Well With My Soul:

The Power of God’s Word in the Hardest Places

The morning of October 2, 2017, was quiet, the kind of stillness that hangs in the air before something sacred unfolds. We had arrived in Haiti, our third time here with Global Point Ministries, carrying a simple yet life-changing gift—the Word of God. In our hands were Bibles, bound in love, carried across miles, and entrusted to us for one purpose: to bring hope where it is needed most.

As I handed a Bible to a woman in the congregation, I looked into her eyes, and I saw something profound—longing, gratitude, and the quiet weight of endurance. “This is a gift,” I told her. “Inside these pages, you will find guidance for every step of your journey.” Her hands trembled as she received it, and in that moment, the words of an old hymn echoed in my heart:

“When peace like a river attendeth my way, when sorrows like sea billows roll, whatever my lot, Thou hast taught me to say, it is well, it is well with my soul.”

A Journey of Faith and Bibles

Since Global Point Ministries began distributing Bibles in late 2015, we have witnessed thousands experience this same moment—believers and seekers alike, overwhelmed by the simple yet extraordinary reality of receiving a Bible of their own. In Uganda, we walked into churches where entire congregations shared a single, tattered Bible. In Cambodia, we met families who had never even seen a Bible in their language. In Haiti, we encountered pastors who had spent years preaching from handwritten notes because they had no Bible to hold.

We have carried these sacred books by every means imaginable—cars, vans, motorcycles, wheelbarrows, boats, even donkeys navigating steep mountain paths. Why? Because the Word of God is worth the effort.

On this particular trip to the Les Cayes area of Southern Haiti, we personally handed out another 2,000 Bibles, bringing the total to nearly 17,000 Bibles given in just two years. We don’t do this alone. Our mission is fueled by partnerships—with churches, organizations, and individuals who believe in the power of God’s Word. Through their generosity, we are able to purchase Bibles and personally deliver them to new and growing believers in some of the most impoverished places in the world.

The Impact of God’s Word

When we place a Bible in someone’s hands, we are not merely giving them a book—we are handing them hope, strength, and the light of Christ. Hebrews 4:12 reminds us:

“For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.”

We have seen this truth firsthand. We have watched men and women weep as they clutch a Bible to their chest, knowing it will become their most treasured possession. We have seen children run their fingers over the words, whispering scripture they will one day teach their own families.

Even those who do not yet believe recognize the power of the Word. One man in Cuba, after receiving a Bible, held it up and said, “I do not know Jesus, but I know this is important.” He promised to read it. Who knows how God will move in his life?

A Call to Step Out in Faith

In moments like these, I am reminded of our own calling. We are not theologians or pastors. We are simply ordinary people who have said yes to an extraordinary mission. That’s how God works. He uses willing hearts to carry His message, and He uses His Word to transform lives.

So I ask you: What has God placed in your hands? What small act of faith could become something far greater than you imagined?

When Horatio Spafford penned the words to It Is Well with My Soul, he had just lost his children in a shipwreck. And yet, in the midst of grief, he declared peace. That is the power of God’s presence. That is the promise we find in His Word. And that is the very gift we carry to those in need.

The Mission Continues

On that morning in Haiti, we thought we had handed out our last Bible. But then, a boy walked into the church, his eyes scanning the room, searching. We had given out every Bible we had—except for one. Someone ran back to the truck and returned with a single copy. I knelt down and placed it in his hands.

And in that moment, I knew: It is well.

There are still millions who long for the hope that can only be found in Scripture. Will you join us? Your partnership can help place a Bible in the hands of someone who has never had one before. The journey continues, and the harvest is plentiful.
