A Forgotten People, A Forever Hope

What if no one ever touched you again?

Imagine being told that your very presence is unclean. That your skin, marked by a disease most of the world has long forgotten, makes you untouchable. Not just medically, but spiritually, socially, and emotionally. That your only crime was being born into the wrong caste, with the wrong condition. And because of that, you’re pushed out—discarded, hidden, and silenced.

This isn’t ancient history. It’s happening now. In 2025. In India.

The Problem – Leprosy Still Exists. And So Does the Stigma

Leprosy, known medically as Hansen’s disease, is now curable. But while medicine has progressed, mindsets in some areas have not. Especially in parts of India, where cultural traditions and caste divisions still isolate the afflicted.

Leprosy patients are often forced into colonies away from society. They’re denied jobs, education, and even basic human contact. Children born to parents with leprosy may be healthy—yet still carry the shame. People don’t just suffer from the disease. They suffer from being unseen.

But God sees them. And so should we. Watch the video below.

A Simple Invitation, A Profound Mission

We were invited by a group of friends from Hope Partners International to visit a leprosy-affected community. They told us it was unlike anything we’d experienced before. And they were right.

We walked down narrow alleys and saw eyes filled with pain—and yet hope. Hands scarred by disease reached out to shake ours. There was no hesitation. No fear. Just grace.

And the most humbling part? We were not there to heal them physically. We were there to share something eternal.

The Plan – Bring the Word. Bring Dignity.

In our hands were Bibles. In their language. Most had never owned a Bible before. Some had never seen one.

We sat with them. Prayed with them. Gave them God’s Word.

In that moment, we realized something powerful: we were not just handing out books. We were reminding them of their worth. That they are not forgotten. That their story matters.

Because God doesn’t skip over leprosy colonies.

The Action – Dignity Restored Through the Gospel

The smiles. The tears. The way they held the Bibles close, like treasure. It broke us. And it built something new.

We saw firsthand what happens when the Word enters places most people avoid. There was laughter. There was worship. There was hope.

It reminded us of the story in Mark 1:40-41, when a man with leprosy knelt before Jesus and said, “If you are willing, you can make me clean.” Moved with compassion, Jesus reached out and touched him. That touch changed everything.

The Transformation – No Longer Forgotten

This wasn’t just a Bible drop. It was a moment of restoration. A declaration that these men, women, and children are seen. Loved. Called.

In a world that still labels them untouchable, the Gospel says otherwise. Jesus touches. Jesus heals. Jesus includes.

And the Gospel Was Given

We left changed.

Not because we did something heroic. But because we got a glimpse of the Kingdom—on the edge of society. We saw the faces of people the world tries to hide, and we saw the image of God in every one.

And we were reminded of the calling:

“Defend the weak and the fatherless; uphold the cause of the poor and the oppressed.” (Psalm 82:3)
